Frequently Asked Questions

How much does therapy cost?

Please reach out to me directly to inquire about my fee.* I charge per each 50-minute session. I do offer a small sliding scale, if you are unable to pay my full fee for treatment. If the sliding scale option does accommodate your needs, we can collaborate to find you an affordable provider. Payment is due at the end of every session or can be managed via monthly bills.

*You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.  You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

WHERE CAN WE MEET?

We can meet in person at my office in downtown Lafayette, CA, or virtually via video when appropriate and necessary.

Do you take insurance?

Currently, I do not contract with insurance companies. I can provide what is called a “Superbill,” for you to submit it to your insurance after sessions for partial reimbursement if you have a PPO plan. PPO plans typically reimburse a minimum of 50% of the fee. You are responsible for paying for our sessions upfront and submitting the paperwork. Please call your insurance provider before we meet to verify their reimbursement policy for "out-of-network" providers and to learn where to send the form.  Many take "out of network” providers along with superbills.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please inform me of any need for cancelling a session 48 hours in advance. If we have scheduled a session together and you are unable to attend or cancel with less than 48 hours notice, you are responsible to pay the full session fee.

CAN WE TALK ON THE PHONE OR TEXT BETWEEN SESSIONS?

I utilize text only to coordinate session meetings. Phone conversations can be scheduled and function as charged Telehealth. They cost the same amount as a regular in-person or video session.

What IS HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE ®?

Health At Every Size ®(HAES), is an ever-evolving set of principles and a framework through which providers can “help promote health equity, support ending weight discrimination, and improve access to quality healthcare regardless of size.” It is trademarked and championed by the non-profit organization, Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH), of which I am a proud member. I work with clients toward acceptance and respect for bodily diversity, rather than idealization of a particular size/shape of body.
